PM Modi Cuts Short Saudi Arabia Visit After Pahalgam Terror Attack, Returns to India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi abruptly ended his official visit to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday following a deadly terrorist attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. The Prime Minister, who was in Jeddah for high-level talks, immediately departed for India to assess the situation and coordinate security measures after the assault, which left at least nine people dead and 33 injured. The attack, one of the deadliest in recent years, targeted pilgrims en route to the Amarnath Yatra base camp, sparking nationwide outrage and condemnation from political leaders across the spectrum.

Originally scheduled to return on Thursday, PM Modi altered his plans after chairing an emergency meeting with Indian officials in Jeddah. Before leaving, he spoke with Home Minister Amit Shah and Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to review security arrangements for the ongoing pilgrimage. “Terrorism has no place in our society. The nation stands united against such cowardly acts,” the Prime Minister said in a brief statement before boarding his flight.

Global leaders, including Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, expressed solidarity with India, condemning the attack and reaffirming their commitment to countering extremism. The White House and several other nations also issued statements supporting India’s fight against terrorism.

In response to the attack, security has been intensified along the Amarnath Yatra route, with additional troops deployed and intelligence agencies working to identify the perpetrators. Authorities have assured pilgrims of enhanced safety measures while urging vigilance.

As investigations continue, the nation mourns the tragic loss of innocent lives. PM Modi’s swift return underscores the government’s determination to confront terrorism decisively while prioritizing the security of its citizens.
