Karnataka Government Holds RCB, DNA Network, and KSCA Responsible for Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede
A Karnataka government report has pinned blame on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), event organizers DNA Network, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for the deadly stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium on July 17, which left multiple people injured. The incident occurred ahead of a high-profile cricket match, exposing severe lapses in crowd management and safety protocols.
Investigators found that reckless overcrowding, insufficient security, and poor planning triggered the chaos. Thousands of fans, including many without tickets, swarmed the stadium gates, leading to a dangerous bottleneck. The report criticized RCB for aggressive promotions that drew an unmanageable crowd, DNA Network for failing to deploy adequate security, and KSCA for ignoring basic safety measures, such as proper gate management and emergency exits.
Victims and eyewitnesses have expressed anger over the negligence, demanding strict action. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah vowed accountability, stating, "Those responsible will face consequences, and we will ensure such incidents never happen again." RCB and KSCA issued public apologies, promising improved safety measures for future events.
The state government has recommended legal action and heavy fines against the organizations involved. Additionally, a committee will review safety standards at all major sports venues to prevent similar tragedies. The stampede has sparked renewed calls for stricter crowd control regulations at sporting events across India, highlighting the need for better preparedness to handle large gatherings.
