Jagdeep Dhankhar Resigns as Vice President Due to Health Reasons

In a sudden and emotional development, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar stepped down from his position today, citing health concerns as the primary reason for his resignation. The 74-year-old leader, known for his strong constitutional stance and active role in parliamentary affairs, submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, marking an unexpected end to his tenure.  

Dhankhar, who had been serving as India’s Vice President since 2022, mentioned in his resignation letter that medical advice compelled him to take this difficult decision. "It has been an immense privilege to serve the nation, but after consultations with my doctors and family, I believe this step is necessary for my well-being," he stated. His resignation has triggered immediate political discussions, as the process to elect his successor will now begin under constitutional provisions.  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his respect for Dhankhar’s service, calling him a "dedicated guardian of democratic values." Leaders across party lines, including Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and several opposition figures, acknowledged his contributions to upholding parliamentary decorum and wished him a swift recovery.  

Before assuming the Vice Presidency, Dhankhar served as the Governor of West Bengal, where he was known for his firm yet balanced approach.
