Sentencing in Ashwini Bidre Murder Case Delayed Until April 21

Sentencing in Ashwini Bidre Murder Case Delayed Until April 21

Sentencing in Ashwini Bidre Murder Case Postponed to April 21 Amid Legal Delays

The much-anticipated sentencing in the high-profile Ashwini Bidre murder case has been delayed once again, with the Mumbai Sessions Court adjourning the hearing to April 21. The decision comes after defense lawyers sought additional time to present mitigating circumstances, prolonging the legal ordeal for the victim’s family.

Ashwini Bidre, a 32-year-old dentist, was allegedly murdered in 2021 by her former partner, who has since been convicted. The case, which drew widespread attention due to its gruesome nature and allegations of stalking and harassment, reached its verdict last month. However, the final sentencing has faced repeated delays due to procedural hurdles.

Public prosecutor Anjali Patil expressed frustration over the postponement, stating, "The victim’s family has waited years for justice. Every delay adds to their suffering." Meanwhile, the defense team argued that the extension was necessary to ensure a fair sentencing process.

Legal experts suggest the court may impose a life term or even the death penalty, given the brutality of the crime. As the new date approaches, activists and women’s rights groups continue to rally outside courtrooms, demanding swift justice for Ashwini.

The next hearing on April 21 will finally determine the fate of the convicted, closing a painful chapter for Bidre’s loved ones.
