Murshidabad Waqf Violence: Key Suspect Arrested in Father-Son Murder Case Amid Communal Unrest
In a significant breakthrough, police have arrested a key suspect linked to the brutal murder of a father and son during the recent communal violence in Murshidabad’s Waqf Board area. The incident, which sparked widespread outrage, occurred during clashes between two groups over a disputed property.
The victims, identified as 55-year-old Abdul Karim and his 28-year-old son Imran Sheikh, were allegedly attacked by a mob while trying to protect their home. Eyewitnesses claimed the assailants set their house ablaze before fatally assaulting them.
After days of intense investigation, authorities detained Salman Qureshi (32), a local resident with a history of criminal involvement. Police sources confirm that Qureshi was identified through video evidence and multiple testimonies.
“We have strong proof of his involvement in the violence. Further interrogations are underway to uncover others responsible,” said SP Rajesh Kumar.
The violence, which erupted last week, displaced dozens of families and prompted heavy police deployment. Community leaders have appealed for peace, while victim relatives demand swift justice.
Local NGOs and legal aid groups are assisting affected families, even as tensions linger. The arrest brings a glimmer of hope for justice in a case that has shaken the region.
