Final Destination: Bloodlines review – death returns with more thrills and twisted fun than ever

Final Destination: Bloodlines Brings Back the Franchise’s Signature Terror with a Vengeance

The Final Destination series has always thrived on one simple, terrifying premise—cheating death only makes it hunt you down in increasingly gruesome ways. Now, Final Destination: Bloodlines, the sixth installment in the iconic horror franchise, proves that after 24 years, Death still has plenty of twisted surprises up its sleeve.

Picking up the franchise’s trademark blend of suspense and over-the-top fatalities, Bloodlines follows a new group of survivors who narrowly escape a horrifying bridge collapse, only to realize their reprieve is temporary. Death, as always, is not so easily fooled. What makes this chapter stand out is its clever expansion of the series’ lore, introducing the idea of a generational curse that ties the fates of past survivors to the new victims in unexpected and chilling ways.

Director Zach Lipovsky, known for Freaks and Leprechaun: Origins, brings a fresh visual flair to the carnage, crafting death sequences that are both ingeniously elaborate and wickedly unpredictable. Whether it’s a high-tech gym session gone horribly wrong or a seemingly peaceful trip to a farmer’s market that turns into a bloodbath, the film keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, dreading what creative kill comes next.

The young cast, led by Lola Tung (The Summer I Turned Pretty) and Mason Gooding (Scream VI), delivers strong performances, balancing genuine terror with the franchise’s signature dark humor. But as always, the true villain is Death itself—an invisible, relentless force that turns everyday environments into deathtraps, making even the most mundane activities feel fraught with danger.

Longtime fans will appreciate subtle nods to the original 2000 film, including a surprising connection that adds depth to the franchise’s mythology. Yet Bloodlines doesn’t rely solely on nostalgia—it ups the ante with even more outrageous, jaw-dropping kills that push the boundaries of absurdity while staying true to the series’ roots.

Ultimately, Final Destination: Bloodlines doesn’t reinvent the franchise, nor does it need to. It’s a wildly entertaining, blood-soaked rollercoaster that delivers exactly what fans want—relentless tension, inventive deaths, and a few well-earned jump scares. If you’re looking for a horror movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still packs a visceral punch, this is one ride worth taking.

Final Destination: Bloodlines is now playing in theaters.
