Mamata warns that Ram and Baam are attempting to provoke unrest in Bengal

Mamata Banerjee Accuses 'Ram and Baam' Forces of Plotting Unrest in Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised alarm over what she describes as a dangerous conspiracy to destabilize the state, bluntly warning against forces she termed as "Ram and Baam" (Lord Ram and bombs). At a fiery public meeting in North 24 Parganas district, the Trinamool Congress supremo alleged that certain elements were deliberately trying to incite violence and communal tension ahead of crucial panchayat elections.

"The first group hides behind religion to divide people, while the second uses bombs and violence to create fear. Both want to set Bengal on fire, but we will crush their designs," Banerjee thundered before a charged crowd. Her unusually stark warning comes amid growing political tensions in the state, with recent weeks witnessing sporadic clashes, crude bomb explosions, and allegations of voter intimidation from various quarters.

Political analysts suggest Banerjee's loaded terminology appears aimed at the BJP's Hindutva politics on one hand and suspected extremist elements on the other, though she carefully avoided naming any specific organizations. The Chief Minister's remarks have ignited a fresh war of words, with state BJP leaders dismissing her comments as diversionary tactics. "This is a bankrupt government trying to shift focus from its failure to maintain law and order," countered BJP's Bengal unit chief Sukanta Majumdar.

The opposition CPI(M) meanwhile took a swipe at both major players, with senior leader Sujan Chakraborty asserting, "The people of Bengal are tired of this endless cycle of polarization and violence manufactured for political gains." Security has been tightened across sensitive areas as the state administration braces for possible trouble during the election season.

Banerjee, known for her combative style, remained uncompromising in her stance. "My government will come down hard on anyone trying to disrupt peace, no matter what disguise they wear," she warned, directing police to deal firmly with troublemakers. With Bengal emerging as a critical battleground ahead of the 2024 general elections, political observers warn the state could be in for a turbulent period as rival forces dig in for a high-stakes confrontation.
